The COVID-19 outbreak causes significant damage worldwide due to its lethality. The COVID-19
pandemic has spread around the world, causing upheaval in almost all industries due to restrictions, curfews,
stay-at-home and work-at-home policies, as well as quarantine. As a result of the medical and economic crisis
with the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism sector has been seriously affected. The UNWTO estimated losses of
about 1.1 billion international tourist arrivals, with the loss of between $ 910 and $ 1.1 trillion in export earnings
and 100-120 million jobs due to the wider spread of the new coronavirus. Therefore, the purpose of this work is
to determine the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the tourism industry on a global scale. The study focuses
on all countries of the world and reveals the problems they face in the tourism sector, as well as strategies to
overcome these problems in the short and long term while minimizing the economic shocks caused by the
pandemic. Researchers use a secondary data source due to the lack of necessary data for further statistical
analysis. These important findings highlighted the negative impact of the virus outbreak on the tourism
industry and the decline in support for sectors such as air transportation and the hospitality industry in a global
context. The article illustrates the adverse effects of COVID-19 on the tourism industry using the available data.
The results obtained will help to cope with the problems in the tourism industry. There are also recommended
strategies for overcoming viral infections in the future.
