The article is devoted to a study and assessment of the socio-economic development of the city of
Zhezkazgan. Based on the study, the authors assume that insufficient attention has been paid to the problem
of single-industry towns. Studies in the field of interaction between local executive bodies and city-forming
enterprises show the lack of knowledge and relevance of the problem. The article analyzes the socio-economic
development of the city, identifies the main development problems, compiles a model of the mechanism for
managing the development of the city, which considers the establishment of interaction between local executive
bodies, large enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses, educational institutions and others that, with
proper interaction, will lead to an increase in social and the economic development of the region.
