Analysis and evaluation of the innovative activity of the West Kazakhstan region on the basis of the innovative development index

Abstract

In the article, the author proposes the method of the index of innovative development of the region,
which determines the level of development of the innovative activity of the regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan
on the example of the West Kazakhstan region. This method is calculated on the basis of indicators of innovation
potential and innovation susceptibility. The subject of the study is the peculiarities of the development of the
innovative activity of the regions located on the territory of the West Kazakhstan region: West Kazakhstan,
Aktobe, Mangistau, and Atyrau regions. There is systematized a list of necessary indicators by abstracting for
the application of this method. First, the indicators of innovation potential and innovation susceptibility of
individual regions of the West Kazakhstan region were calculated through special indices, then the index of
innovative development of the West Kazakhstan region was calculated according to the formula proposed by
the author. Based on the results obtained, an assessment was carried out and recommendations were made for
further improvement of innovation activities in the region.
